This project was about learning about food and the role of the current food farming system. This helped by supporting large amounts of food to the global food markets. Inside this food, markets bring out the evil things with the industrial system such as the change in land, ecosystem, hunger, nutrition, causing an increase in obesity, and diet-related diseases. With this project, we did many things to learn about the background food such as one of the things we did to get more insight into food was we read a book called the Omniverse Delimia. This whole book was about the food industry, how we get our food to our table, the good in bad of food, the difference between processed food and organic food, and its benefits. We also watched a movie on the menu called Fed Up, and the gist of this movie was how processed was taking over the world and affecting a lot of people through obesity problems and what makes up all of those processed foods and the negative impact of them. With this project, we had to think deeper on what we were putting in our bodies and to think deeper on how food is made. Especially meat, eat was a significant impact, and how the difference between grass-fed animals are bigger than processed meat. The biggest take away we had from this project was when a specific group of kids went to Sunny Side Farms and got to witness everything they did from the slaughtering of a cow and how they cut up all the different individual parts of the animals.
This whole project had a significant impact on me, and I got new knowledge on how the entire food industry works and the good and bad side of it. I made me think twice of what types of food I put in my body, and it changed what food is healthy for me. I have been interested in the food culture and how to live a better life by eating healthy, and it has been beneficial for learning about food through this project. It was awesome learning about food because this project kind of, in a way allowed students to make better life decisions with food. I got to focus on the meaning of food labels and the nutrition facts and got to see what it takes to put all those ingredients on food. With this food project, I got to get into making my food daily because it has been beneficial to learn how to cook healthily. During the food project, it has been fun finding new ways to eat and find alternatives to eating and not eating processed anymore because the things that go behind in making processed food. When watching the Fed Up movie, it was cool watching farmers raise their animals in a better way and treating them with such respect it should be like this everywhere and made me appreciate eating animals that were grass fed. It taught to give respect for the people who decide to go vegetarian or vegan; it has motivated me to make the same decisions because of the bad stuff they do to the animals.
Before this food project, I have always thought about what I was eating and to stay healthy and to think twice in what I was putting in my body daily. This project motivated me even more to eat food that isn't GMO and not processed, but there were times where I would eat processed food from time to time. My biggest take away was how the whole food industry worked; it was so exciting to learn about, and I think everyone should at least learn a little about their food. It's fantastic to see people make significant changes into what they are eating and want a better food experience through learning how the food is prepared and processed. I have thought about food in a more profound way than I ever had and it has such a great experience knowing what goes behind making processed food and there were times where I felt disgusted in seeing processed food. My favorite part about this entire project was reading the Omniverse Deliemia because I haven't enjoyed such a good book about food ever and everything about it made learning about even better. The thing that shocked me the most was learning how everything was made of corn and when I would look at food I would say oh that's made of corn or everything is made of corn. Overall this whole project for me was very intellectual and made me appreciate food more, and it was fun.
Food ESsay
Eating food something we do religiously it gives us the fuel and energy we need to get through the day with the nutrients, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fat, and proteins. As everyone else as a kid, the only thing we wanted to eat was candy and always not eating enough. Eating can be tough to do when I don't know what I want to eat; it's still tricky deciding what to eat. I haven't thought about what types of food I eat or if its good for me. Over the past century, the production, distribution, preparation, and consumption of food have changed drastically. During this unit of food, It got me thinking of what I have been eating in the past — learning about how and where I get my food changed my perspective on the food industry exceptionally all fast food in general.
Being an active individual, I need food that can make me feel good throughout the day because eating food that is prepared in an instant makes me feel terrible. I have learned to take care of my body from the food and drinks I have consumed. There was this one time during middle school, where I decided not to drink soda for a whole year. Honestly, it made me feel better, and it made soda so gross every time I would take a little sip. On that note, thinking about what I eat is a big question that is hard to answer. The only thing I know is that I no longer eat fast food because every time I would, it made me feel sick. This made me think about my food ethics and where it all started.
The most common thing kids will eat junk food, especially gas station food. I went through a phase during my freshman year, where during lunch, I would eat candy from the gas station. I would eat it every day and thought nothing from it because it was a quick snack I could eat on the go and in an instant. I had no clue what was in candy and would eat it because of all the sugar in it. I paid no attention to what I was putting in my body, and I didn't care. Eating is one of the most significant things I love to do, and I consume a lot of food, and I eat whatever I think is healthy for me. I think it's important what types of food you put in your body because of it an excellent way to think deeper into what you're eating and what it takes to get that food to your stomach.
